Richard Goh

Piano & Saxophone

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Performing Arts in Music, University of Malaya. Grade 8 ABRSM.

Styles: Romantic Period, Jazz.

Musical Biography: Richard has been working at GIS for 6 years. He is Grade 8 ABRSM piano trained and has been an ABRSM and Trinity seminar delegate. Richard studied saxophone with Ian Chan Wing Hang at the University of Malaya. He is currently a member of the KLPAC symphonic band and plays regularly with the GIS Secondary Orchestra and Jazz band groups. Over the years, Richard has had masterclasses with Jean-Marie Londeix, William Street, Julian Chan and Tong Young. He attended The 3rd International Soloist Saxophone Camp 2008 in the College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand.

Wan Ru Khoo

Cello & Piano

Qualifications: Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music) Hons, currently completing Master of Performing Arts.

Styles: Classical

Musical Biography: Wan Ru has been teaching at GIS since 2015. Her musical journey began with piano lessons at the age of five. During secondary school, she participated in the school’s Chinese orchestra and began to learn the cello. She took private lessons and received proper training for cello at the age of 14 under Loke Bok Kun. She then began her music studies at the University of Malaya, majoring in cello under the tutelage of Lian Phooi Wooi and Huangyi Lin. Besides Western classical instruments, she plays in both Gamelan and Taklempong ensembles.

Nian Shee Yon

Orchestral Percussion & Piano

Qualifications: University of Malaya, Malaysia Bachelor in Performing Arts in Music (2008-2011); The Boston Conservatory, Boston MA Master of Music (2013-2015); The Boston Conservatory, Boston MA Professional Studies Certificate (2015-2016)

Styles: Classical, Jazz.

Musical Biography: Nian Shee has been working at GIS since 2016. She is an incredibly accomplished percussionist who has studied in Malaysia and the USA. Nian Shee works with our Secondary orchestra and jazz band and has experience leading the Orchestral Percussion CCA. She can also teach piano and is an exciting addition to our IMP team.

Kun Ming Soon

Piano

Qualifications: (Distinction) Master of Arts, Music Performance, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama; (Distinction) Level 6 Licentiate Diploma (LTCL) on Piano Performance, Trinity Guildhall College of London; (Distinction) Level 4 Associate Diploma (ATCL) on Piano Performance, Trinity Guildhall College of London;(Distinction) Grade 8 Piano and Music Theory, Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)

Styles: Classical.

Musical Biography: Our newest addition to the team in August 2023, Kun Ming is a music educator and musician who teaches students ranging from elementary to university level. He is passionate in sharing his musical knowledge, interpretations, experience, as well as improving his musical journey. He is frequently judging music competitions, presenting music masterclasses and seminars, providing piano accompaniment for instrumentalists and singers and always encouraging students to love learning and improving at anywhere and anytime.

Sue Xian Eiap

Singing

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts in Music and Popular Music, University of Wolverhampton (2016). ABRSM Grade 8 Piano, ABRSM Grade 8 Theory.

Styles: Classical & Pop.

Musical Biography: Sue Xian is a passionate and dedicated vocal tutor who works comfortably with a range of musical genres. Sue Xian is an accomplished singer who has worked with bands and choirs both in Malaysia and the UK. She brings this experience to the GIS IMP team to enhance the vibrant culture of singing present at the school.

Melissa Dang

Viola & Violin

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music Education, ATCL Violin, ALCM Piano, Grade 8 Viola.

Styles: Classical & Pop.

Musical Biography: Melissa has been teaching at GIS since 2014. She was a violist of Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (Assistant Principal). She has also played with the National Symphony Orchestra, Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra, Radio TV Malaysia (RTM) Symphony Orchestra and the University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Symphony Orchestra (Assistant Principal).

Melissa also had the privilege of performing to the Sultan & Sultanah of Terengganu in the City Hall with cooperation of UPMT. She also performed with the Monash Symphony Orchestra in the Joint Programme between the Music department of UPM and Monash University of Australia.

Angela Lou

Viola & Violin

Styles: Classical & Pop.

Musical Biography: Angela has been an active violist in Classical and Pop performances since year 2003, after which she graduated from University of Putra Malaysia. She has also obtained the FTCL and LTCL Diploma in Viola Performance of Trinity College of London. She gives tutorial in UITM, UPM, UCSI, UPM, UCSI, UPSI, ASWARA, Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka, Genius Seni Muzik and The Alice Smith School. She is the guest violist for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), Macao Orchestra, Malaysia Nasional Symphony Orchestra and RTM Orchestra as well. She is the violist in Space Age Production, which toured to Taiwan (2017), Japan (2018) and Jakarta (2018). She was invited to music camp: CISMA (2005), AYO (2004, 06, 08, 10) during which she had tour performances in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. Angela has had the opportunity to work with world-class artists such as: Okko Kamu, Sergiu Comissiona, Charles Dutoit, Chantal Juillet, Gary Graffman, Kirill Gerstein, Nikolaj, Znaider, Wang Jian, Sarah Brightman, IL Divo, Russell Watson, Jacky Cheung, David Tao, to name a few. Angela was very honoured to be selected among candidates from 15 countries to join the WCIT World Orchestra and be part of the first of its kind, artificially intelligent (AI) classical music concert, which opened one of the largest IT events in the world: the World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT 2019) in Yerevan, Armenia.

Pei Jing Chia

Trumpet & Trombone

Qualifications: Bachelor of Classical Music, UCSI University (2017). ABRSM Grade 8 Piano, ABRSM Grade 8 Theory.

Styles: Classical & Pop.

Musical Biography: Pei Jing is a passionate and motivated brass tutor who works with various styles of musical genres. She is a trombonist who has performed in symphonic bands and orchestras. She is also currently a band director at other primary and secondary schools' wind band. Pei Jing brings this experience to the GIS IMP team to create a supportive yet challenging classroom. This inspires students to be kind, hard-working and curious about playing different styles of music and having fun playing the trombone for solo performances, with the ensemble, orchestra and band.

Jon Handley

Brass (French Horn/Trumpet/Trombone)

Musical Biography: Hailing from the English Midlands, Jon began playing the Horn at the age of 11 at his local community school and then in local youth orchestras. He studied in both London and Glasgow before embarking on a busy freelance career as a professional musician in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Jon has been a performer, educator, adjudicator and examiner. He has performed with a variety of ensembles as diverse as the London Symphony Orchestra to Clean Bandit, covering a wide variety of musical genres, with Musical Theatre being a particular favourite. He currently teaches at Garden International School and the Alice Smith School and performs with the KLPAC Symphonic Winds and Selangor Symphony Orchestra as well as other freelance orchestras in Malaysia. When not doing music, Jon can be found either creating in the kitchen or following Star Trek.

Ching Ting Yong

Flute

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music. Hons. UCSI University. ABRSM Grade 8 Theory. ABRSM Grade 8 Flute (Distinction).

Styles: Classical

Musical Biography:  Ching Ting joined GIS in 2016 to help enhance the strong woodwind programme here at GIS. She is an energetic and passionate teacher who has also performed with the KLPAC Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and various other ensembles around KL. Ching Ting has also prepared students for recitals, performances and exams here at GIS and has an increasing number of students on her books.

Kamil Hasbi

Guitar (acoustic & electric), Bass, Ukulele

Qualifications: Rockschool Grade 8 in Electric Guitar.

Styles: Rock & Contemporary

Musical Biography: The latest addition to the IMP team, joining us in 2021, Kamil Hasbi started learning guitar at the age of 15. He has ample experience in performing in bands, touring around the country as well as internationally. He has experience in music production, producing music for other musicians as well as working on his own music. Kamil is a self taught guitarist, in which he has gained a massive wealth of experience in trial and error that he now uses as tools in his teaching. He has a real passion to show others that while the guitar is a difficult instrument to start with, it is also a very fulfilling one.



Yugi Foong

Drums

Qualifications: Diploma of Media Technology (Audio Engineering). Rockschool Teacher Trained.

Styles: Funk, Rock, Pop.

Musical Biography: Yugi joins the GIS Instrumental Music Programme tuition in 2018 and is a popular member of our IMP Team. He is a passionate teacher who looks to bring excitement and enjoyment into every lesson. He is highly knowledgeable in the Rockschool syllabus and has successfully entered many students over the past few years. Yugi has also performed as a drummer and percussionist in a range of ensembles and has also led percussion ensembles.


Julian Ong

Clarinet

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music.

Styles: Classical

Musical Biography: Julian joined the GIS IMP Team in 2018 to help develop the extensive woodwind programme. He is an experienced clarinetist who has performed in Taiwan and Malaysia and is a passionate teacher. Julian has experience preparing students for ABRSM exams and his students regularly achieve excellent results.
